As the third member of the ANBU team turned and flitted through the trees to report that the threat had been dealt with; Naruto squatted, and tilted his head to look up at Sasuke.

 

Stupid Naruto. Stupid fox mask… honestly, didn’t someone control what ANBU members put on their masks? It was hardly dignified, grinning like that, matching what Sasuke just knew was a wide and scary-cheery smile underneath.

 

“Alright! Bodies to burn, and then home for ramen. What kind of ramen should we have tonight Sasuke? Do you think Sakura and Lee would join us? I think I might start with some curried ramen, and then…”

 

Sasuke tuned him out effortlessly, (given the long practice he’d had doing so). He watched with mounting irritation, as Naruto gathered up the bodies, and threw them messily in a pile. Mounting irritation, and mounting something else… damn…. Focus on the irritation, not the way the late afternoon light made the blond hair sticking out from the grinning mask glow. Not the way the shadows from the leaves played across the muscular arms and shoulders. Not the way…

 

“Naruto! You’re disposing of the bodies all wrong.”

 

“Oh, excuse me, Mr. There a Wrong Way and Then There is An Uchiha Way of doing everything. Not all of us had the benefit of body disposal apprenticeships with Kabuto.”

 

“I can dispose of these ones, or I can dispose of you, loser.”

 

“Ha! Like you’d have a chance with me! You didn’t even eat anything other than that stupid tomato sandwich today. And you didn’t even try the ramen. And you may think you’re all that with your fast moves and creepy eyes, but I kicked your butt last week, and I’ll do it again. Bastard.”

 

Sasuke rolled his eyes behind his mask. (And honestly, when he said he wanted a quiet animal, he hadn’t expected a mouse. Didn’t anyone control what went on ANBU masks? He didn’t look at Naruto, stretched out on the forest floor in a sunbeam. He didn’t look at the muscles shifting underneath the black shirt. He sighed, and started disposing of the bodies.

And enough with the caps, but for reals, CUTENESS. And the fact that Naruto would grin his head off, twice or three times, because he COULD.

And Sasuke's the mouse. I'm reminded of Fruba. Seen Fruba? Very Fruba-ish, with subtle sub-text sex.

Sasuke needs to hit on Naruto. This is why he's so cranky, all the time.

Glad you liked it. (but Sasuke likes being cranky... some of my most favorite fics are Naruto and Sasuke in bed, and Sasuke is still all grumpy)

Fruba : Fruit Basket. It's...an odd name, odder shortened, but it's a pretty good anime. I'd rec the anime over the manga, because the anime's quicker and less angsty/romantic and more funny.

Thank you! Sasuke is a little too fun to write, even if he is just on the edge of flustered. I was watching anime last night, and realized that I like all the stoic characters: Holland from Eureka 7, and Mustang/Riza... man, fanfic is as good as therapy.

We had a talk about this back in my LJ a few weeks ago. I asked everyone if they had a type of character or 'ship that they were drawn to. Mine is definitely childhood friends/sweethearts for ships (Neji/Hinata, Renji/Rukia) and gruff, yet secretly sweet for characters (Mugen from Samurai Champloo, Renji again.) :D Do you have a "type" that you generally go for in your shipping?

I've been thinking about this all night, and haven't got an answer yet. Gonna sleep on it, 'cause it is an interesting question. My best guess so far is complicated ships/with a generous dollop of damage and lots o' backstory.

That's a good answer. I agree that backstory is very important! I have a hard time just throwing two names together, though it apparently gets done all the time.

It's getting to the point where my husband my flist can point out the character I'll like in a fandom before I even see him/her.
