politics and best friends

eshala and I were talking on the phone (no surprise) and the election came up and she made some disparaging comment about Jack Layton.
"But, I, um... I've always liked Layton" I demurred. "Have I not been paying attention? Is there a reason?"
She gave me a couple reasons, and followed up with "And then, of course, you just have bad taste in men."
Clearly I should have just stuck to my admiration of Olivia Chow.

I would truly have had far more confidence in Olivia Chow than her husband but feel the need to say that it's not just his cheesy moustache that makes me distrust Jack. That's just an extra strike against him.
Not that I am planning on changing the way I vote. I just wish that the party I vote for had a leader who inspired me more. The reality is that as much as I may personally not like Jack - the NDP is the only party that addresses a balance of social justice and environmental issues in a way that (mostly) makes sense to me.
