Fic: Sleeping Arrangements

Not mine, at all, at all, at all
The offworld sleeping arrangements had been settled early. John figured as equations went, it was pretty simple: They needed to double up, and only one arrangement made sense.
Ford was the kind of young good looking guy with whom smart gay officers didn't bunk; and McKay was a walking sexual harassment case, so no way could he share with Teyla. And that meant each pair had an official military member. So they started out that way, and Ford had lots of patience for McKay's fussing, and less for his teasing; Teyla and John had a companionable silence. When Ronon joined the team, John wondered if he should take the new guy, but somehow it didn't happen. So John and Teyla kept sharing, and Rodney shared with Ronon.
Sometimes they're in beds, and John sleeps with Teyla tucked into his arms, wakes with his face pressed into her hair. Teyla kicks in her sleep, and John claims bruised shins in the morning. John snores, and Teyla asks for ear plugs at senior staff requistion meetings.
Sometimes they're in tents, and Ronon sleeps with Rodney pressed against his back, loosely holding Rodney's hand. Rodney drools in his sleep. He mutters equations. Ronon wakes abruptly from nightmares, heart racing, and Rodney shifts, damp mouth against Ronon's shoulderblade, fingers tightening.
Who is sleeping with who offworld doesn't change once John is sleeping with Rodney home on Atlantis. Sometimes they say goodnight outside of tents, leaning against a tree in the dark shadows away from the fire, mouths moving lazy and wet against each other. Sometimes they say goodnight in hallways, fingers brushing bare wrist. Sometimes John rests agaist a doorway while Rodney is buried in readouts and wires, crystals and circuits. Waits until Rodney looks up. Reaches out with long fingers to curl against Rodney's jaw. Leans down with a generous kiss, lips and just enough tongue to ensure Rodney's paying attention.
Later, John will sleep with Teyla tucked into his arms. Rodney will sleep slung against Ronon's back. In the morning John will run with Ronon, if they can, while Rodney and Teyla make beds and small talk, cook breakfast or greet hosts. Teyla will double check that the food has no citrus, and Ronon will find John's clean shirt. Rodney will save the extra berries for Teyla, and John will rub his foot against Rodney's ankle.
