Happy Birthday Nezuko!

Fic: Hot Soup
Spoilers: Chuunin Exams, maybe a little

Disclaimers: I'm borrowing Genma and Kakashi, and I totally stole "pretty and stoic" from zookitty79... who is writing a great Neji/Kiba story.

Genma slouched against the wall and watched Kakashi haphazardly stow his gear. He couldn’t imagine trying to train either one of Kakashi’s brats for the final part of the chuunin exam, but he was looking forward to seeing how far they would push themselves. Or be pushed. He’d seen Jiraiya with the blond brat a few times, and only the gods could imagine what that man was capable of doing in the name of training. And Kakashi’s bizarre training methods were no doubt directly descended from Jiraiya’s. Genma had watched Kakashi train chuunin cells, and was torn between horror that he might try the same methods with first year genin; and amusement at the way Kakashi’s hair and vest were dirty, torn and singed. If the Uchiha kid had similar potential and temperament to his brother, it must have been quite the training run.

 

Finally Kakashi seemed content that his gear was  no longer posing an imminent danger, so Genma offered to heat some miso soup and noodles while Kakashi showered. They ate quietly, habits born out of too many missions together where food was a luxury and silence a necessity. Genma sipped hot tea while Kakashi finished a second bowl of broth and noodles, letting his eyes soak in the sight of his friend safe at home, with his loose cotton pants draping across his hips and legs, the lines of Kakashi’s chest and abs showing under the tight cotton undershirt he wore.

 

Genma could feel heat building that had nothing to do with hot tea and soup. Every couple of years would come a night or afternoon when Kakashi’s particular blend of the prettiness behind the stoic mask would disarm Genma’s defences. He could feel his cheeks begin to warm, and shifted. Kakashi looked up from his soup, smirked and put down the bowl.
