Date: 2008-09-18 12:35 pm (UTC)Yup! THat's how we think blind cave fish work! They feel in the water cause of the lateral line system they have running down their sides. It's like if you tossed a blind person in a room - they'd go around and around till they learnt where everything was - sort of touching, but a little further than that. Like touching with their ears.

Date: 2008-09-18 02:32 pm (UTC)I only just discovered that not ALL fish have a lateral line system! Some of them don't have the canal system, only the skin surface neuromasts, called the superficial neuromasts. Like having haircells on their skin. Of course these fish are probably sighted fish which rely on many other things to navigate, but isn't it damn cool?
