Penguin poop
c) Tell you something I like about me.
I like that I usually take the time to stop and listen when I ask people how they are doing. And that I often get more information than "Fine."
d) Tell you a memory I made up of you.
Remember that time? When we were in Paris, and we smuggled and backpack full of paper airplanes up to the top of the Eiffel Tower and launched as many as we could before being hustled off by security? And then two days later, we saw one of our airplanes (and we knew it was one of ours, because we used that fancy patterned paper with the animals and stars and flowers) - clutched in the hand of a little girl in a stroller in the Rodin sculpture garden? And we were eating chocolate brioche, and laughing so hard we couldn't stand up?

What have you been reading recently? I was thinking about re-reading Dirt by Kipnis.

Yay! I think I'm transitioning between fandoms, and have lost my writing muse at the moment.

Being an ocean away from my family. I would find that so hard.

I'm a good cook.
d) Tell you a memory I made up of you.
I remember you sitting in my living room, one hand wrapped around a steaming mug, and the other waving as you talked. The late morning sun streamed in through the windows, and you glowed against the dull green twill of the couch.

Fish! Tell me something about fish!

*grins* I always learn a lot when we talk about spirituality stuff.

Date: 2008-09-18 01:20 am (UTC)b) Being an ocean away from my family. I would find that so hard. Strangely enough, I find my parents (Okay, my mother) more tolerable because I'm a whole ocean away from home. It's even better that I have a 12 hour time difference too. Plus I'm now two states closer to my sister. What I do miss is the easy familiarity of knowing that someone was asleep in the same room as you. That there was someone with you, that you could lie back on the bed in the dark and talk to them. It's something I've grown up with, and when I went to NZ, I actually had a roommate (for two years) that I could do that with. Now that, I do miss. A little.
c) I'm a good cook. Yay! That totally means you should bake me cookies. and send them to me. :D
d) I remember you sitting in my living room, one hand wrapped around a steaming mug, and the other waving as you talked. The late morning sun streamed in through the windows, and you glowed against the dull green twill of the couch. Damn, that was a good one. Kinda chilly though, and I had to tuck my toes under me, cause my socks were thin, and spring's not yet warm enough. (That kinda reminds me of Mistful's Draco.)
e) Fish, eh? Apparently someone's done a spatial cognition experiment on blind mexican cavefish. She also did something about the handedness of the fish, whether fish prefer to swim with a wall on their left or their right, and so on. But that one I wasn't so sure. She did some pretty elegant experiments with little blocks in the environment of fish, and so on and so forth.
f) I saw! Boobies. :P I think the green thingy was nice. I totally didn't notice the nails. >.>
g) Really? I always have to think through my own assumptions whenever we talk. :P

Date: 2008-09-18 12:24 pm (UTC)So - How do blind fish build spatial cognition? Through bumping into things? Or... I don't know - feeling in the water? We were mesmerized by a science clip on tv the other day watching people figure out how hammerhead sharks see.
*hugs you* I totally should send you a care package. But I'm TERRIBLE at getting to the post office. *hides from Nene*

Date: 2008-09-18 12:35 pm (UTC)Yup! THat's how we think blind cave fish work! They feel in the water cause of the lateral line system they have running down their sides. It's like if you tossed a blind person in a room - they'd go around and around till they learnt where everything was - sort of touching, but a little further than that. Like touching with their ears.

Date: 2008-09-18 02:32 pm (UTC)I only just discovered that not ALL fish have a lateral line system! Some of them don't have the canal system, only the skin surface neuromasts, called the superficial neuromasts. Like having haircells on their skin. Of course these fish are probably sighted fish which rely on many other things to navigate, but isn't it damn cool?

I'm the kind of parent that takes her 10 year old to a 9pm special screening of the Death Note movie on a school night. An hour away from home.
d) Tell you a memory I made up of you.
We met at the life drawing class, remember? That first morning I was almost late, because I'd stopped for a coffee after getting off the bus, and then I got to the class with barely enough time to change into my robe before dropping it for the opening sketches. I didn't notice you until the first break, when you were muttering over one of the sketches. When I was back a couple of weeks later, holding those long poses, you brought me a coffee, and I drank it sitting by the heater, even though it had sugar in it, and I never put sugar in my coffee. You had conte smudged across your cheek, and your hair was mussed and kind of sticking up, and when the break was over, I felt naked for the first time when I dropped the robe.
e) Ask you something I've wanted to know about.
Where does the time go? And what is it about having children that changes the space/time continuum into this rushing stream where they just keep getting bigger and bigger. I remember when they were little, and suddenly they're wearing my shoes and so tall.

Oh --- the letdown from the scene when you think Starbuck is in bed with Lee, and it turns out to be Gaius
c) Tell you something I like about me.
Little things make me happy. Driving down gravel roads with fields and trees stretched out as far as I can see. Channel surfing on the radio and always, always stopping for the disco tunes. The smell of nasturtiums.
d) Tell you a memory I made up of you.
Jesus. I remember that time you pushed me up against the wall. You leaned in, eyes narrowed, and in that low, breathy, scotch scented voice asked if I was sure. The hall was so dark and narrow, and when someone walked past us, they jostled you just enough that the edge of your bracelet dug into my collarbone and the wall shuddered from the beat of the music in the bar and I couldn't even catch my breath to answer.
*grins*

High school: The Cure? or AC/DC?

Awww - seriously.... Those are incredibly sweet things to say. I'm gonna save up "wise and sane" for the days when I feel neither.

Date: 2008-09-20 04:18 pm (UTC)As for e)...The Cure. I still have concert t-shirts from that era. And pictures, in which I was smoking clove cigarettes. Oh. god. That was a really long time ago, wasn't it.
So, were you sure? ^__^

Date: 2008-09-20 11:28 pm (UTC)Oh, The Cure. I was doing something the other day, and was suddenly reminded of the video for.... Love Cats?... Inside the box, with the finger puppets? (wanna be, wanna be, wanna be wanna be pretty...)
e) Now you don't remember my answer? I'm offended!

What I remember most about the season we raced together are the downwind legs. Even with all the twitchy-ness of trimming the spinnaker, you would relax, and peel off a layer. You wore those big wrap-around polarized sunglasses, and would grin as we accelerated when the chute caught the wind.
